Subjects to practice with

Posted on 1st June 2015

Other than your backyard as a location for photography, anoher great location is your local parks. They usually have lakes or ponds in which water fowl gather to breed, feed or rest. They are used to seeing people and therfore as easier to approach. Don't forget to take some food with you if you wish to lure them to your location. Nothing like free nosh to attract all sorts of wildlife. Look for an area that underbrush and trees reflect in the water. Nothing worse than a subject in grey water. Get low down where possible to bring intimacy to the subject and don't forget that a frame filling picture may be nice, but it is better to give some room around the subject to show where it lives, and give it somewhere to swim. Using F8 or better with a fast shutter speed will usually assure you walking away with keepers. It also makes for a fun and relaxing day.
